Aiming at reducing carbon dioxide emissions linked to energy consumption due to its PVC compounding activities, Somapla decided to invest in green-source energy. Considering the privileged location of Somapla in southern Europe, photovoltaic solar panels were the chosen technology. The installed solar plant has a 445 kW nominal capacity, and is able to produce more than 10% of the annual electric energy consumption. Since the solar plant production start-up 18 months ago, carbon dioxide emissions were reduced by more than 220 tonnes. Excess electric energy production is injected into the local distribution network.
